This is a true story about a homeless little dog, who finds his Happily Ever-After. The story begins with a stray white dog who was living in a parking lot and roaming the streets of Los Angeles CA in August of 2014. The dog was terrified and in bad shape with foxtails embedded in him. Eldad Hagar from a non-profit rescue organization called Hope for Paws came out to help. The scruffy white dog was very frightened and found many places to escape. Finally, his rescuers blocked him with a soccer net and was able to catch him. After this little guy was caught, he quickly went from terrified, to a happy little bundle of joy as he smothered Lisa Arturo, one of his rescuers, with kisses. He was named Professor Einstein because he looked like the shaggy-haired professor. Einstein was groomed and the embedded foxtails were removed from his coat and body. While he was recovering, Einstein was filmed for a TV appearance with Betty White, showing off his star quality. He later found his forever home with his new dad and best friend, Actor-director Emanuele Secci. They created Hope for Paws to help animals in this country who suffer and die every year because of negligence and abuse. National Puppy Day is a special day to celebrate the magic and unconditional love that puppies bring to our lives. But more importantly, it's a day to help save orphaned puppies across the globe and educate the public about the horrors of puppy mills, as well as further our mission for a nation of puppy-free pet stores. There is approximately 8,000-10,000 puppy mills in the U.S. and this would include many businesses that call themselves breeders such as "backyard breeders", people who purposely allow their dog to get pregnant in hopes of selling puppies through their local paper or online. Pet stores that sell puppies are the number one reason that so many puppy mills exists today. Convince each and every pet store to stop selling puppies and the mills will go out of business. National Puppy Day was founded in 2006 by Celebrity Pet & Home Lifestyle Expert and Author, Colleen Paige, who is also the founder of National Dog Day and National Cat Day (among many others). National Puppy Day is actually considered an international holiday now, as it's trended worldwide on Twitter in 2012, 2013 & 2014. Colleen Paige has devoted her life to creating special days of recognition that improve the lives of animals and their people. For more information about National Puppy Day, go to http://www.nationalpuppyday.com/ and the founder, please visit www.colleenpaige.com We would like to thank Ms Paige for all that she has done for animals and celebrating this special holiday worldwide. Betty is a big supporter of animal health and welfare. She works with a number of animal organizations, including Actors & Others for Animals. Betty was honored at the Second Annual American Humane Association's Hero Dog Awards. She has never turned away an animal in need. As a child the family had 26 animals at once for a short time, but tries to keep her family to no more than two-four. She admits it gets tough when there aren't enough hands to go around. Betty adopted all three animals in the photo above. Panda the Shih Tzu had been abused in a pet store that has since been shut down, the Golden Retriever named Kitta was a trained guide dog with bad hips, and a Himalayan named Bob Cat who she discovered at her hair salon, where someone wanted to find him a home. Check out this great video of Betty about adoption. Doris Day is one of the most-dedicated, hard working and recognized public servants and advocates of animal welfare and animal rights. Long before it was fashionable to have a cause or show compassion, Doris was protecting and defending the animals and the people who loved them. Doris was one of the founders of Actors and Others for Animals, which still today is a leader in the protection of animals in Hollywood. If there was a benefit or pet adoption event, fans could often count on Doris to be there helping out. The Doris Day Animal League is a national nonprofit citizen’s lobbying organization dedicated to protecting animals through policy initiatives, education, and corporate engagement. The community is helping Broadway Barks, move closer to the day when no New York City dog or cat of reasonable health and temperament will be killed simply because they do not have a home for them. For more information about this organization go to this link http://broadwaybarks.com We would like to thank everyone who has helped foster and adopt animals in need. Let's continue to help these animals by educating people about puppy mills and spay and neuter programs. Also a big thank you to everyone who has shared their information with us to make this article possible. You guys rock. :) National Puppy Day 2015
National Puppy Day is a day to celebrate everything about puppies, but also raises awareness about puppy mills and irresponsible breeding. We remind those considering bringing a puppy home to have a plan in place. We ask people to consider more than just the looks of a puppy. All puppies are cute, but which breed is the best one to fit your lifestyle. Most puppies in shelter's are mix-breeds, so do your homework for all the breeds the puppy of your choice is mixed with. Some breeds are more hyper than others and may not be the right one for a home with small children or an elderly couple who would need a more laid back breed. Getting a puppy of any size is a huge commitment and know that they could live between 10- 15 years. Think ahead about your future financial situation and what your family will be doing years down the road and how your dog will remain part of your family. Another tip, consider what to do with a puppy during an emergency. In honor of National Puppy Day from March 23, the American Veterinary Medical Association offers caregiving tips for puppies: First checkup: Puppies should be vaccinated starting at 6 weeks. Also learn what signs of illness puppies can display, as they are especially susceptible in their early months. Tracking: Is your pup's ID tag up to date? Be sure it has your current contact information. Household hazards: Pup-proof your home, keeping poisonous chemicals and food secured well out of reach. Remember that many "people'' foods are toxic to dogs including chocolate, onions, avocados, and many more. Potty training: Establish a housebreaking routine and stick with it to help lessen the chances of accidents. Reward your pup whenever he makes it outside for the bathroom. Play time: Make it a point to regularly exercise your puppy. It helps keep him (and you) healthy and happy. Again, be a responsible pet owner. Love and care for your puppy for his entire life and enjoy the love and affection you will get in return. |
