The Golden Girls
One of the most beloved TV shows of all time, "The Golden Girls", aired for 7 seasons from September 14, 1985, to May 9, 1992. It was a sitcom starring Rose Nylund (Betty White), Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur), Blanche Devereaux (Rue McClanahan), and Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty). The show was about four single women over the age of 50 who move into a home together in Miami Florida.
Betty loved the writing of The Golden Girls and felt the cast had a great chemistry and was paired with the right characters.
Rose Nylund -was a widow with 5 children. She moved to Miami after her husbands death and worked at a grief consoling center and later became an assistant to a consumer reporter. Rose was known for telling her hilarious hometown stories and dizzy remarks.
Blanche Devereaux - was a man- hungry southern gal who worked at an art museum. She had 6 children with her late husband George. She was born to a wealthy family and grew up on a plantation near Atlanta Georgia.
Dorothy Zbornak- was born in Brooklyn New York, got pregnant in high school and married Stan, the father of her child. After 38 years, they divorced when he left her for a flight attendant. She moved to Florida and became a homeowner.
Sophia Petrillo- was Dorothy's mother who was born in Sicilly. She had a stroke and was a resident in a Retirement Home in New York. After the facility burned in a fire, she moved in with the three woman.
The Golden Girls won eleven Emmy Awards and four Golden Globe awards.
